The Miniver dress

1942

This is my Miniver dress. I saw this at a vintage show, tried it on & for some reason walked away. As soon as I got to my car, I regretted not buying it. When I got home, I immediately tried to get in touch with the seller to find out if it had been sold. When she said no and that she would hold it for me, I was thrilled. Luckily she was not far from my home, I picked it up & aptly named it.                    Mrs.Miniver- Made in 1942, starring Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon & Teresa Wright. The movie takes place in small village outside of London. It about how Mrs.Kay Miniver, her family and the rest of the village handle their daily lives during the war. She shows strength & courage to care for her two younger children alone when her husband leaves to help out in an evacuation & her older son joins the Royal Air Force. What follows is so telling about the war and its consequences.
This movie won six Oscars and once you watch it you will know why. This movie made me a fan of Greer Garson, her beauty, style & incredible talent is truly amazing.
Although Greer Garson does not wear a dress similar to mine in the movie, for some reason it just reminded me of Mrs.Miniver. Maybe it was the simple yet classic look or that fact that it has simply endured after all these years.I'm not sure, I'm just happy that I have my dress. I have started a tradition that when I am to wear the dress, I watch the movie. I hope that when I pass this dress on to my daughter she will do the same, so that neither the dress nor the movie will be lost .

My daughter, the photographer

This photo is one of my favorites.
This is were everything worked out well. I just happened to see a photo of Betty Grable with this hairstyle. I tried it out and in less than half hour, I'd done it! I decided not to waste good hair and take some photos.
I moved my bedroom furniture around to show off the new vanity, I had recently bought for $30.It had dry & dusty wood, the mirrors support bar was missing & the matching bench had a broken seat. I cut out the bar, a new seat, stained & re-covered the seat with vintage chenille. I was happy that it all came together so easily and only cost under $10 to fix.                                                                               I asked my daughter to take the picture. I thought she would have the most patience to put up with my uneasiness of being photographed. What I found out was that she has not only patience, but a really good eye.Photography might be her forte. After we viewed this photo, my  daughter and I decided that she would take all my photographs.

Vivaciouslady vintage

Hello everyone!

My name is Maria,
I have always loved dressing in vintage clothing. I would raid my mom's and grandma's closets for their beautiful dresses and accessories. I would also raid my dad's and grandfather's closet for hats, ties and wide legged slacks.

I am now a stay at home mom after working for over 10 years as one of the lead merchandiser in a large department store. I was happy to leave it as it meant I could finally go back to wear my vintage clothing.

My family and friends encouraged me to start blogging about my vintage world, finds and my love for repurposing. I hesitated on the fact that I knew nothing about computers and where to begin in the blogging world.

My goals for this blog is to show others of any age that if they wish to dress in vintage or decorate with it, it can be done and on a budget....I thoroughly believe in the 1940's "Make do and Mend".

I'm not comfortable around computers so my blog will be rough around the edges, but stick with my kids and let's just have fun with it. By the way, my blogging name came from kids & hubs as they thought it best described me.
